It is the new year, right?

Happy New Year! 

It is the new year, right? I remember celebrating something, all that guac and chips and champagne and a countdown and a kiss and the children up way too early the next morning in complete disregard for my poor late night decisions. So we must be here, right?

It’s just it’s been so weird around here. The kids hung out at home for a million more days before school opened their doors, somebody tacked on some bonus days at home sick with an ear infection, now we’ve thrown in a couple of e-learning days and it’s beginning to feel a bit like spring 2020, only without all that sweet optimism. 

Also this happened last week.

 Big. Big things. So much to tell you. 

Speaking of so much to tell you…

Did you get some weird emails from me? Maybe you did. Maybe you didn’t. I’ve been doing some rearranging on my Substack, moving the furniture around and stuff, trying on new outfits etc. And I may have hit some buttons. I don’t know. Technology is hard. Good thing we trust parents to educate our children with it these days. 

What I’m saying is, I wasn’t going to send this little greeting just yet. I was going to wait until it was all set up before inviting you over. I was going to be showered and have some candles lit and have a full fridge of delicious word food to prepare for you. 

Instead you’re getting the bottom dregs of the cheerios box and maybe the leftover spiked egg nog from a month ago (the alcohol kills the bacteria, relax.)

This isn’t one of those what’s out/what’s in for the new year posts. It isn’t a recap of my holidays or top ten faves from ‘23. It isn’t even my over due monthly newsletter.

This is just me saying hi. I’m here and I’m glad you’re here, too. This is the same little corner I’m just giving it a new name.

Don’t worry. It’s not anything new. It’s still just a place where I string together all of the things I’ve been meaning to tell you. It’s kind of like that thing that happens when you’re catching up with a friend and your conversation just wanders from one random thing to the next. Like your friend was talking about climate change and then you were like “speaking of hot mess…I need to tell you about this new face serum I love.” And maybe it doesn’t sound related? But it kind of does?

Anyway, that’s kind of what it’s like over here. I have a lot of things I love to talk about. And so a lot of different things will show up here. You’ll still get my monthly newsletter with stories and GIFs and fun links.

But I also plan to do some regular-ish sharing of my cocktails from Story Sip and Song.

 And my podcast, that just celebrated its first birthday so I thought it’s time I was better about sharing that content with you…

And then there will be some occasional bonus stories as the words strike me. You know, as soon as we finish up these antibiotics and I find the right password to log into that Google meet all while figuring out an old but new working lady routine.

So that’s it for now. Feel free to have a look around. There’s more to come. But I’m leaning into more quick hi there/hellos this year than the 500 page novels.
